Yongquan ‘Owen’ Hu

Research Fellow

Yongquan (Owen) joined the Augmented Human Lab at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a Research Fellow. He holds a PhD from University of New South Wales (UNSW), an MSc from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) , and a BSc from Donghua University (DHU). Besides, he has gained academic and industry experience through internships and visiting positions at various institutions, such as Tsinghua University, the University of Maryland, and Lenovo. His work has been published in venues such as CHI, IMWUT, UIST, and ISMAR.

His research sits at the intersection of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on Human-AI Collaboration and Multimodal Interaction. He explores how visual modalities can be combined with other sensory inputs to enhance contextual perception and user interaction. His expertise spans hardware (e.g., sensors, embedded systems) and software (e.g., computer vision, generative AI, large language models), contributing to the development of Vision-based Multimodal Interfaces (VMIs) for applications in Extended Reality (XR), healthcare, and beyond.

Outside of research, Yongquan enjoys badminton, swimming, and writing jokes. A fun fact: he once created a viral joke on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) that amassed over 160,000 views—though he insists his research has far fewer punchlines
